Arizona State Capitol

Arizona's Legislators are cutting more than 1 billion dollars from public education over the next two years. Teachers are loosing their jobs, important programs (all day kindergarten, pre-K, music, etc.) are being cancelled, teachers salaries may be reduced, the number school days in a year are being shortened, class sizes are increasing....a HUGE impact on our children's FUTURE!! Arizona is 4th in the country on spending for our prison systems and 55th in the country for our per pupil funding (after the US Territories). What is wrong with our Legislators? The AEA (Arizona Education Association) organized a rally/march on Education Day at the state capitol. Some news stations reported about 20 thousand teachers, parents and students turned out. It was such a great feeling knowing that I was there trying to make a difference for my children and my students! We'll see if it worked!?!

Ok...Ok...I have been asked who Lesley is and how I know her. Lesley was my first girlfriend I met in Illinois. She dated Darin, who is one of Timm's best friends and neighbors, for a few years. Darin, Lesley, Timm, and I would go out together ALL the time when I was in town. I was very sad when they broke up a few months ago. Lesley is great and it's nice to know that I have a friend like her in Illinois. She is VERY nice and genuine and extremely FUN to be with! I'm so glad she came to visit me and my part of the country!! We had a BLAST!!!! I can't wait until she comes back!!

Lesley was very fascinated with the cacti. We took lots of pictures of them.
On our way to dinner with the Gallups, we stopped by Daryl's fire station. Lesley went on a tour, and had fun with the fire truck (so did I).

After dinner at BJ's and a visit to Seizure World for some more catching up with the Gallups, we hung out at Dos Gringos. I was the "big shot" of the night!! What a fun place!!

The rest of our weekend..... on Saturday night, we went to a party at Daryl's house and dancing at Gram Central Station with some teacher friends. Sunday we went to a Super Bowl party at a fireman friend's house. It was a great game, lots of good food, nice, fun people, hot firemen....but EVERYONE was disappointed the Cardinals lost. It was very heart breaking!! ...We have NO pictures to share from those events! Wish we would have remembered the camera!! Maybe next visit!?!

On Sunday, we went exploring some sites on the coast of Oregon. We first stopped by the Peter Iredale, a ship that sunk in the early 1900's. It was so cool!!

Battery Russell, Fort Stevens State Park It was constructed by the U.S. Army toward the end of the Civil war and remained active through World War II. The fort was built to protect the North against an English invasion from Canada, should the British join the Civil War on the Confederate side. In its long history, Fort Stevens never fired its guns in anger.

It was interesting to see how America was protected in that area during war.

On Father's Day, Timm, Me, Griff, Maxx, Debbie, Phil (Timm's parents), Darin, and Noah (neighbors) went to the Peoria Chiefs Baseball game. It was fun....until the storm came and it was cancelled. Timm and Darin won a raffle for an autographed wooden bat which had Ryne Sandberg's signature and I got Jackson's (from Hannah Montana) autograph for Eliza. She was super excited! I wish she was there to see him herself!
